Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad condemns the violence perpetrated by TMCP goons yesterday evening during a political rally of Bharatiya Janata Party. We demand a thorough investigation of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) office bearers in the college.
Deliberate provocation by TMCP cadre followed by stone pelting by the same resulted in the college being vandalised. If creating ruckus was not enough, the bust of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, a polymath and a prominent figure in Bengali Renaissance, was desecrated. It is pertinent to note that only the TMCP cadre was inside the college campus when this incident took place. It is shameful that without checking facts, some journalists who are supposed to be unbiased and not act like spokespersons of political parties, have been quick in putting the blame of this entire incident on ABVP. When the incident took place, ABVP was nowhere in the picture.
Further, several testimonies written by students on social media point to the fact that the college gates were locked and there was no possibility of anyone from outside barging in the college. The heavy presence of TMCP cadre in the college also hints towards their involvement in initiating the violence and the ruckus that ensued.
National General Secretary of ABVP Shri Ashish Chauhan said, “We believe that the whole incident is a handiwork of communally charged TMCP goons. Their involvement in the incident should be investigated in depth and stern action should be taken against the perpetrators.”
