Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad called on the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof. D.P. Singh and presented a memorandum demanding an extension of one year regarding the PhD thesis submission deadlines for the affected doctoral students.
ABVP, in its memorandum, has highlighted the fact that while submission deadlines for the final year doctoral students have already been extended by a year, PhD students in junior years must also receive similar relaxation of one year, as they too have been equally impacted by the pandemic.
Nidhi Tripathi, National General Secretary, ABVP, said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the doctoral students, their intermediate research inquiries and analyses, and consequently set back their academic progress by an entire year. The closure of laboratories and libraries as well as the cessation of research surveys due to the pandemic induced lockdown are all relevant factors to be considered for providing relief to the affected doctoral students. We had presented a memorandum in this respect to the Union Education Minister as well. We hope that the UGC Chairman will take cognizance of the grievances of the PhD students and extend the thesis submission deadlines by a year at the earliest.”
