Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has witnessed an unprecedented performance in Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union Elections, recording historic victories by winning 23 out of 42 councillor seats across 16 schools and special centres. This is the highest number of seats won by any student organisation.
Details of ABVP’s Victories across the Councillor posts:
•School of International Studies: won 2 out of 5 seats
•School of Social Sciences: won 2 out of 5 seats
•School of Biotechnology: won 1 out of 2 seats
•Special Centre for Molecular Medicine: won 1 out of 1 seat
•School of Computational and Integrative Sciences: won 1 out of 2 seats
•School of Computer and System Sciences: won 2 out of 3 seats
•School of Engineering: won 4 out of 4 seats (clean sweep)
•Special Centre for NanoScience: won 1 out of 1 seat
•School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies: won 3 out of 3 seats (clean sweep)
•Amalgamated Centre: won 2 out of 2 seats (clean sweep)
•School of Environmental Science: won 1 out of 2 seats
•Atal Bihari Vaypayee School of Management and Entrepreneurship: won 1 out of 1 seat
•School of Physical Sciences: won 2 out of 3 seats
ABVP also achieved two historic milestones this election:
1. In the school of Social Sciences, considered a centre of left influence in JNU, ABVP secured two seats for first time in 25 years signaling a historic shift.
2. Similarly in the School of International Studies, long dominated by leftist ideology, ABVP won two seats establishing a new political discourse.
Right from the beginning of election process, ABVP had demonstrated a strong and dynamic presence. Several candidates were elected unopposed for Councillor posts in various schools:
•Surendra Bishnoi was elected unopposed to the sole seat in the School of Biotechnology.
•Praveen Piyush, Raja Babu and Prachi Jaiswal were elected unopposed to the all three seats of the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies.
•Govardhan Singh was elected unopposed to the seat in Special centre for Molecular Medicine.
Furthermore, ABVP candidates are maintaining strong leads for all four major positions in the Central Panel; Shiksha Swaraj for President, Nittu Goutham for Vice-President, Kunal Rai for General Secretary and Vaibhav Meena for Joint-Secretary showing the wide acceptance of ABVP in JNU and student’s trust in its leadership.
