New Delhi : As a result of the continuous struggle and student-centric efforts of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Delhi University has decided to cancel the mandatory provision of depositing a ₹1 lakh election bond for contesting the DUSU elections. This decision marks the success of the questions raised and struggles carried out by ABVP.
It is noteworthy that ABVP had opposed this unethical and undemocratic provision of ₹1 lakh bond for contesting Delhi University Students’ Union elections from the very first day. On this issue, ABVP had consistently staged protests within the university, submitted a memorandum to the Registrar, and only yesterday met the Vice-Chancellor demanding the immediate withdrawal of this arrangement. Consequently, today the University decided to scrap the provision of ₹1 lakh for contesting DUSU elections. ABVP stated that had this provision been implemented, it would have severely harmed the democratic tradition of Delhi University.
ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma said, “This victory is not just of ABVP but of every student of Delhi University. ABVP believes that elections are a festival of democracy, and imposing economic barriers is an infringement on students’ rights. ABVP raised the voice of students with full force, and today this struggle has succeeded. We will continue to fight with the same commitment on every issue concerning students’ welfare.
