Students for Holistic Development of Humanities
Foundation (SHoDH)-JNU organised an online event titled “Reviving ancient Indian pedagogy through the legacy of ancient Nalanda University: Understanding it’s relevance for contemporary scholars” to mark the 76th years of National Students Day which is celebrated on 9th July every year. The event witnessed footfall of hundreds of students and scholars across India. Prof. Rana Purushottam Singh from Nalanda University and Shri Pawan Gupta, Founder and Mentor, SIDH were the keynote speakers in the event.
Prof. Singh eloquently enlightened the students on the glorious history and relevance of Nalanda University by citing his experience at Archeological sites in India and Pakistan. He referred to the silk route as a “wisdom route” through which Indian knowledge system transcended the entire world. Mr. Gupta highlighted the existing gaps in the pedagogies through intriguing examples and invoking the scholars and policy makers to introspect and be careful while choosing pedagogical methods for school children. He asked the young scholars to develop good observational skills and focus more on contemplation and give sufficient time before jumping to any conclusions. He stressed that it is more important to teach students and scholars “to be” rather than “to appear”.
Also present in the event was National Convener SHoDH, Arjun Anand reflected upon the contributions made by the youth of the country in building a Resilient Bharat and how Vidyarthi Parishad has been at the helm of affairs in facilitating the young minds towards constructive work. SHoDH Delhi co-convener Prince Kumar Singh was also present during the session.
The event concluded with the Vote of Thanks offered by Adarsh Kumar, Convener, SHoDH-JNU.
