Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad expresses strong disapproval of the remarks made by Vice-Chancellor of Ashoka University welcoming and congratulating Prof. Ali Khan following his grant of interim bail. It is deeply unfortunate that in a case where even the Honorable Supreme Court itself expressed dissatisfaction and concern over the conduct of University Admin, the Vice-chancellor’s actions seem to stand in direct opposition to both judiciary and academic dignity.
It is important to note that the remarks made by Prof. Ali Khan regarding Operation Sindoor- an operation carried out with extraordinary courage and dedication by the Indian Armed Forces were not only highly objectionable but also demeaning to the security personnel engages in safeguarding the nation. This becomes even more alarming in the light of the recent barbaric killings in Pahalgam where terrorists targeted victims based on their religion. At such a time, a teacher making anti-national statements is not only betrayal of academic responsibility but also affects the nurturing of patriotism, constitutional values and moral perspective among the students. This situation clearly reflects that certain elements are misusing academic freedom to distort ideological development of the students.
ABVP firmly believes that while respecting the judicial process all academic institutions must adhere to restraint, dignity and responsible conduct. On sensitive national matters the academic community should engage with seriousness and avoid any statements or actions that could harm national morale and integrity.
ABVP’s National General Secretary Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki stated, “Ashoka University’s response is not only contrary to the dignity of the court but also raises serious questions about the social and moral responsibility of academic institutions. Individuals in topmost positions at universities must undertake the seriousness of their duties and learn to uphold both the judicial process and national values. ABVP strongly condemns all conduct that goes against national interest and demands appropriate disciplinary and legal actions against such elements.”
