Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) welcomes the Delhi Government’s decision to construct hostels with a capacity of 10,000 students. Delhi is a major centre of higher education for students from across the country, making safe, affordable and accessible accommodation an important need. ABVP has consistently raised the demand for increasing the availability of PGs and hostels in Delhi and ensuring better residential facilities for students.
The need for stronger safety standards in student accommodation came into sharp focus after the Satya Niketan incident. ABVP emphasises that the new hostels must strictly comply with all prescribed safety standards, including fire safety, emergency evacuation, adequate ventilation, sanitation, lighting and other essential safety measures. Ensuring these standards will be crucial to providing students with a safe and secure living environment.
ABVP Delhi State Secretary Shri Sarthak Sharma said, “Providing adequate and safe hostel facilities for students in Delhi has been a long-standing demand of ABVP. Increasing the number of hostels and ensuring safe and better residential facilities for students was also an important commitment in ABVP’s manifesto for the upcoming DUSU elections. The Delhi Government’s decision to construct hostels for 10,000 students is a significant step towards addressing this long-standing demand, and we welcome the decision. We hope the project is implemented at the earliest and that all necessary safety standards are strictly followed, ensuring safe, dignified and better accommodation for students coming to Delhi.”
