New Delhi : Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Monday staged a massive demonstration at Tamil Nadu Bhawan in Delhi, demanding an impartial and independent investigation into the sexual assault of a 19 year old student at Anna University. ABVP called for strict action against the perpetrators supported by the Stalin Government, immediate release of ABVP activists arrested during protest in Tamil Nadu and an investigation into those responsible for violating the privacy of the victim.

On 23rd December, a 19 year old student at Anna University was brutally sexually assaulted and the prime accused reportedly has close connections with senior leaders of Tamil Nadu’s ruling party DMK. This has led to continuous efforts by the state government to suppress the issue. Today ABVP has protested demanding justice for the victim, strict punishment for the guilty, and an independent investigation into DMK’s role in protecting the accused. ABVP also called for release of arrested ABVP activists detained during protests in Tamil Nadu.

ABVP’s National Secretary, Shivangi Kharwal stated, “The Stalin Government in Tamil Nadu has proven to be utterly incapable of ensuring safety of female students. The horrific crime committed by goons backed by this government stands tall as a testament of its failure. Through the protest at Tamil Nadu Bhawan, we have raised a voice of justice for the victim and demanded a fair investigation into the case, along with immediate release of our activists arrested in Tamil Nadu.”

ABVP Delhi State Secretary, Harsh Attri stated, “The sexual assault case of a girl student at Anna University is deeply saddening. Today we have staged a mass protest in front of Tamil Nadu Bhawan, demanding a swift investigation into the case and a strict action against the perpetrators. ABVP will leave no stone unturned to ensure justice for the victim.”

The protest witnessed the presence of Delhi University Students’ Union Vice President Bhanu Pratap Singh and Secretary Mitravinda Karanwal along with hundreds of students.
