The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Delhi staged a protest outside the MCD headquarters last night against the tragic incident at Satya Niketan and warned of action within 24 hours. ABVP karyakartas have been continuously assisting people at the accident site. Expanding its agitation, ABVP has now launched sit-ins and protests across various colleges and campuses of the University of Delhi. Karyakartas are demanding accountability from the administration for ensuring students’ safety and the suspension of the MCD Commissioner. With the resolve of “No More Satya Niketan,” ABVP has made it clear that no compromise on students’ safety will be tolerated.
ABVP conducted widespread protests across various colleges in the North, South, Central, East and Kalkaji campuses of the University of Delhi against the Satya Niketan PG tragedy. ABVP karyakartas held demonstrations at Hansraj College, Hindu College, Kirori Mal College, Lakshmibai College, Shyam Lal College, Zakir Husain College, Sri Aurobindo College, College of Vocational Studies, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Ramjas College, Shivaji College, SPMC and various other campuses. The protests raised demands for ensuring students’ safety, a high-level investigation into the Satya Niketan incident, and strict action against those responsible.
ABVP’s key demands include a high-level and impartial investigation into the Satya Niketan tragedy and strict action against PG operators, building owners and concerned officials whose negligence contributed to the incident. ABVP has also demanded an immediate structural and safety audit of PG accommodations and rented buildings located in and around the University of Delhi and other student-dominated areas. Administrative negligence concerning students’ safety will not be accepted. “No More Satya Niketan” is not merely a slogan, but a resolve to ensure safe accommodation for students. Until effective action is taken to fix accountability and implement concrete measures to prevent such incidents in the future, ABVP’s agitation will continue.
ABVP National General Secretary Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki said, “Following the tragic incident at Satya Niketan, ABVP karyakartas have remained on the ground, assisting affected students and demanding action against those responsible. Today, ABVP karyakartas are holding sit-ins across various colleges and campuses of the University of Delhi, demanding that students’ safety be ensured. Accountability must be fixed for everyone responsible for this tragedy arising from negligence on the part of the MCD administration. Our resolve of ‘No More Satya Niketan’ is clear: no student in Delhi should ever be forced to risk their life by living in an unsafe building. We demand strict action against negligent officials, building owners and all those who have violated safety norms.”
ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma said, “The tragedy at Satya Niketan has exposed the serious negligence of the system. Those responsible can no longer hide behind excuses. How long will administrative negligence regarding students’ safety continue? The Delhi Government must identify those responsible and take immediate action, while ensuring concrete and effective safety measures in every student-dominated area.”
