The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has intensified its campaign for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections following the announcement of its central panel. Yash Dabas is contesting for President, Ishu Maurya for Vice President, Riya Chhawdi for Secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh for Joint Secretary. With a clear target of winning all four seats, ABVP karyakartas are reaching out to students across colleges, hostels and student hubs, focusing on issues that directly affect campus life and student welfare.
On Saturday, ABVP karyakartas interacted with students staying in various PG accommodations and hostels and raised the issue of safe and affordable student accommodation under its ongoing ‘Aakhir Kab Tak?’ campaign, launched following the Satya Niketan incident. Following sustained demands and protests by ABVP, construction of a 2,400-bed girls’ hostel is underway. ABVP has stressed that the university needs to go beyond this and significantly expand hostel capacity for all students, while ensuring that accommodation remains safe, accessible and affordable.
Women’s safety remains another key priority for ABVP. The organisation has consistently raised the need for stronger safety mechanisms on campus, including Pink Booths, CCTV cameras, women’s safety patrol vehicles and U-Special bus services. Through initiatives such as ‘Nari Tu Narayani’, ‘Swayamsiddha’ and ‘Vamika’, ABVP has also worked to promote the safety, self-reliance and leadership of women students. Dedicated cells for academic, women-related, Northeast and hostel-related concerns have been created in DUSU to ensure that students’ issues are heard directly and taken up for resolution.
ABVP’s candidate for DUSU Secretary, Riya Chhabri, said, “Students should not have to compromise on their safety or education because of a lack of basic facilities. Women’s safety and adequate hostel accommodation are issues that require continuous work, not just election-time promises. ABVP has consistently taken these concerns from the ground to the university administration and pushed for concrete action. The beginning of work on the 2,400-bed girls’ hostel is an important step, but the demand for hostel accommodation across Delhi University is much larger. Expanding hostel capacity and ensuring a safe campus environment will remain among our priorities. The strong response from students gives us confidence that they are ready for change, and ABVP is set to deliver a decisive 4-0 victory in DUSU.”
